Take a Tour

Tours offer an educational experience where you can learn what wastewater is, where it goes, how the cleansing process works, what reclaimed water is, and what you can do to conserve drinking water. Tours of LOTT Alliance facilities are available to the public throughout the year.

Tour the Budd Inlet Treatment Plant

The heart of LOTT's system is the Budd Inlet Treatment Plant. Wastewater flowing to the Plant currently comes from about 50,000 homes, apartments, and commercial/industrial connections served by the sewer utilities of Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater. From homes and businesses, the wastewater flows through a series of underground pipes to the Plant. The Treatment Plant is located at the north end of Adams Street, between downtown Olympia and the Port of Olympia. Tours of this state-of-the-art Treatment Plant take 1-1/2 to 2 hours, and are conducted by Treatment Plant Operators who safely guide visitors in and out of buildings throughout the facility.

For Teachers and Students

We invite you to take your class on a Budd Inlet Treatment Plant tour. The tours are geared to school-aged children, 5th grade and up, and are about one and a half hours in length. Treatment Plant tours are generally scheduled between 9 am and 2 pm Monday through Friday. For the best possible date and time, please schedule tours at least two weeks in advance.

See the Budd Inlet Reclaimed Water Facility

Rather than being discharged to the Inlet, up to one million gallons per day of the treated water is diverted to a sand filter system, which further cleans the water to Class A Reclaimed Water standards so it can be used in the community for irrigation and other beneficial purposes. This facility is located on the same site as the Budd Inlet Treatment Plant, and is included in the tour.
